Amanda Knox Trial Nears Conclusion
Nearly two years after the alleged murder occurred, a verdict is expected within the next couple of days if not within the next few hours regarding the fate of American student Amanda Knox. The 22-year old has been on trial since early this year for committing the murder of her roommate, British exchange-student Meredith Kercher in the Italian apartment that the two girls shared while abroad. Since the beginning of the trial, widespread speculation about the handling of the case by Italian prosecutors has given Knox’s defense attorneys a pathway to proving her innocence. Circumstantial evidence has played a large part in the prosecution’s strategy to extract details about the events that took place that night involving Knox. So while there is a lack of hard facts and credible forensic evidence to determine that Amanda Knox actually did murder Kercher, the defense has yet to be successful in providing a sound alibi for Knox. Nevertheless, there has clearly been unreliable evidence and deductions made by both sides. Disorganization among the Knox defense team has proved to be especially harmful, even recently, when two forensic experts put on the stand for the defense gave contradicting statements. Ultimately, this lack of expertise and professionalism by Knox’s defense may eventually condemn her to a life sentence in Italy if the jury makes that determination. The uncertainty of Amanda Knox’s situation demonstrates the necessity of a criminal defense team that will thoroughly explore every avenue in order to achieve the best possible result.
